HP Pavilion ze4300 - black screen!!

Help, please! A week ago I turned off my notebook, and when I tried to power up the next day I got a black screen. Battery, lights, fan, everything like that is working fine, but I noticed the blue hard drive light in front is not responding. I had an IT guy at work look at it and he mentioned possible motherboard problems but couldn't figure it out. Any ideas, suggestions, advice...anything? I'm not a computer-literate person when it comes to hardware. :eek:

Start up your notebook and look closely at the screen. Can you see the letters etc... show up but its just very dark? If so, then your backlight went out. Although not something you can fix yourself, at least you can tell that to the diagnostics people or contact warranty support.

Thanks for the tip - that's not it, there's nothing at all on the screen and no hard drive activity. :confused:

I have the same problem you did, but today I recently tried something after listening to God know's how many people tell me it was my motherboard; try this. Plug up your AC adapter into your notebook but unplug any thing thats connected to you (mouse etc.) take out your battery, then plug your AC adapter into your comp and plug it into a wall or surge, turn your PC on and it should boot up- then you know you need to replace your battery; you might need to unplug your AC adapter from your PC a few times but it will kick on.

The reason one would suggest the MB is with the power and heat in a laptop case is most often the reason for failure taking the MB with it... It's the easy answer.

Do the battery trick before going nuts with this one.
