Ive posted on this before. My aquamark 3 scores are significantly lower than other weaker systems and I was wondering whats goin on. The have a place on the aquamark forum where you can compare scores and here is a link:http://arc.aquamark3.com/arc/arc_search.php?activeRunID=1494603842

Not only does his gfx card beat my score his step down cpu smokes my cpu like a cuban cigar.

When I posted before it was said my pcchips sis 741 chipset could be to blame but would a chipset and mobo drop my score by 10,000 pts? Or would cheaper memory at 2.5337 aid in the dropping.

Any insight you could provide on the above would be much appreciated

p.s. I have no programs running during the test

One possible explanation is the larger amount of level two cache that is used in the Athlon XP 2600+ Barton as opposed to the 2700+ Thoughrbred. However, outside of that, I'm quite perplexed as you are. It could be your motherboard holding your sys performance back but the differnece should be neggligible. What motherboard do you have?

pcchips m863G with sis741 chipset

I reinstalled windows when I got the card and installed the agp gart drivers from sis's website. Then I installed the nvidia 66.93 drivers and thats it. Did I do that correctly? I know your supposed to install chipset drivers but my motherboard has onboard video so i just installed agp drivers. Is there another driver I need?

You installed the motherboard's AGP drivers for the on-board video? That would conflict with your nVidia drivers. That may also be part of the problem.

Other possible problems would be the quality of your RAM and the cache/speed of your hard drive (utilizing the page file during the tests).

Bud, I think we're starting to beat this to death - your motherboard is substandard. It's PC Chips - a budget board built with a budget chipset. It's not sold as a performance motherboard, it's sold as a budget board for a general use machine, and you are trying to make it high performance, this isn't going to happen. You can't make a $40 motherboard run like a $90 one.

I know this may sound dum and basic - but run the test with NO other background programs, or at least, only the critical ones.

But I will second the idea behind hte motherboard upgrade. You can't make a Chevy Chevette run with a Corvette - it just won't happen.

Im definatly looking into getting one of those boards but what I want to know is will I see a noticable difference? I think of mobo's the way i think of psu's: They both just make all the other things go but better brands are more reliable.

And on a side note what is that big silver heatsink lookin thing next to the cpu socket on the asus board.

I'm afraid nobody here can guarantee you will get much better performance with that board. It's worth a shot though.
