hey everyone,

i built a pc for my parents. they don't need (or want) anything fancy, so i got them an intel d845gvfn motherboard with onboard lan, video, and sound. everything works fine except the video. when the drivers are installed and i try to boot up normally, it hangs when applying personal settings (windows 2000). when i boot into vga or safe mode, everything works fine. when i do get a successful boot, there are ghost images on the screen, and some menus are scrambled around (right clicking on the desktop will bring up the menu, but most of the options will actually not even be in the menu, but projected onto the desktop). it has the latest bios flash, and i've tried the latest drivers with no luck. anyone have any ideas?

Check the amount of shared ram for the video in the bios. I usually max it out (8mb or 16mb depending on what version of Extreme). Also make sure that you are using a resolution/refresh compatible with your monitor.

no go... i installed windows 98 on another harddrive and it works fine with the video. there must be something with windows 2000 and the drivers.

Did you try the drivers on the express installer cd - and the latest downloaded drivers? I've yet to have an issue with IEG and Win2K, and I've sold a ton of systems with that combo. Make sure you install the chipset ID drivers first. What version of DirectX? I believe IEG needs 8.1 or better to work right. Did you install SP4?
