What's the difference between DVI-D and DVI-I and what kind do video cards use?

DVI-D is a pure digital connection, meant for TFTs and other digital output devices (such as digital projectors, for example).

DVI-I has 5 more pins, which are for analog output, for compatibility with analog devices, such as CRTs. The digital portion of DVI-I is identical to DVI-D, so if you have a TFT with DVI, the -I or -D doesn't matter, as they are identical in that respect.

Video cards can have either one. There are cards with DVI-I, and there are cards with DVI-D, so if you need DVI-I (using a DVI/VGA adapter you can hook up a CRT to it), you gotta check the specs of the particular card you're getting to find out what kind of DVI it has.
