Hi All:

With my old set-up (Win98), I had four CD Rom's installed, they were ...

DVD Lite-On
CD Rom 36max
CDRW Acer 12x8x32
CD Rom NEC Changer four disk unit

They all worked just fine in the Win98 system, but I can't get them to work in WinXP.

The four disk changer shows up as a single disk unit.

I was trying to hook all the CD Roms up like I had them in the old computer two CD Roms on the primary, and two CD Roms on the secondary of the motherboard with an Ultra 66 card for two hard drives.

But WinXP don't want to except all this stuff :(

The new WinXP system workes just fine with my two hard drives plugged into the Primary and two CD Roms (DVD & CDRW) plugged into the Secondary.

Is there any way to get everything working like I had it? If not I can live with what I have now.

Also while I was trying to set up this I received a message saying something about having to reregister with Microsoft, and they gave me three days to do it. What's that all about?

I registered when I first got on line, but am I going to have to reregister everytime I make a change to my computer?

Thanks ahead of time,

Bill Lane

I don't know about register but if you made enough hardware changes to an XP set-up you have to activate it again.
It's possible that you've run into Microsoft's new anti-piracy requirement for OEM builds where they check to see if you got one of the pirated numbers, which is how they know the serial numbers are being counterfeited.
About all those drives.
You may need to update the drivers for the controller card or replace it with another for it to run under XP.
Read this and see if it's any help : http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;295322&spid=1173&sid=467

Your NEC changer is not compatible with XP. NEC never wrote a driver and never will.

Hi pam123 & glc:

Thanks for the input, I guess I'll just learn to live with what I have.

Thanks again,
