Went to google, did search and got some answers but none fixed the problem yet. Did get some good info though. points me in the direction of its a video card problem. It might be switching to fast from low resolution to high res. but I still dont know how to correct this.

Should I get another card? $$$? I just bought this one ATI radeon 9600xt

Any more ideas you can give would help. Thanks "a newbie" :D

If is possible for you to boot in safe mode try to uninstall video drivers, and alow windows (on your next reboot) to install windows drivers with found new hardware wizard then if succeseful go to ATI web site and download latest catalysts(drivers).
If problem presists maybe you can try to exchange yours graphic card for a new one.
(Can you check is yours computer able to support the new graphic(I mean do you have enough power) and is yours AGP slot 2x 4x or 8x check all that before you try anything else.)

What are you using for a monitor?

Yes I can boot in safe mode. uninstalled drivers and still cant get past the users window before "frequency out of sync" error comes up.

I am using a gateway ev700 monitor

The card is an ATI 9600XT 8X/4X
The mobo is supposed to be 8X/4x compliant

I'm pulling my hair out and I dont have much to begin with. :D

Do you have access to a spare monitor and video card you can swap in to eliminate yours from the problem?

The EV700 should be able to run at 1024x768 at 75 Hz refresh - if you are pushing it higher, this may be the problem. The ATI driver properties can be set to limit this if plug and play is not picking up on the monitor limitations. You may have to open display properties in safe mode and force a 640x480 16 color display at 60 Hz to get it into normal mode to make the proper settings.

Boot into safe mode and set the monitor and the video card to standard windows drivers. Then install the new drivers again for the new card and change the monitor to the right type. If that don't work then the video card was bad when you bought it. I have seen this happen numerous times. If you get another card try it, and if the same thing happens then its the monitor.

Well finally figured it out. I pulled the ATI 9600 XT out, installed an older ATI 7000. It fired up just like it was ment to. installed the latest catylist drivers, disabled AGP Fast write mode in the BIOS. Reinstalled 9600 XT and all was good. DAMN this Video card has some awsome graphics, Set monitor to max refresh rate for 1024x768 looks good.

Thanks guys :)
