Hello,
I am curious to know how an IDE to USB converter works. And also, does it keep logs/tracks from the last hard drive? Or is its only job to convert IDE to USB....

What type of chips are on a converter?

Ive noticed that on the HDD encloures i've worked with (which of course, adapts an IDE HDD to USB connectivity), there is a circuit board with an IC (intergrated circuit, or a microchip) on it. Knowing electronics, that chip basically takes the IDE data, and converts it to USB signals. the exact technical side of how it works, i do not know.

So, basically, there are no cache chips or anything that store temporary data on an external coverter chip. The only reason for its existance is for it to convert IDE to USB....?

Well I can safely say that its job is to convert IDE to USB. Whether or not these converters are capabale of storing cache clips or other temp data is beyond my knowledge of it.

You would not want to do that, you can not hot swap IDE drives. But you can hot swap usb devices.
