I have just purchased a new HP computer with a 200GB Seagate Hard-drive, on the occasional reboot the eventviewer in Windows Xp is reporting a bad-block error, is this cause for concern???

It won't "fix" the problem, only mark that spot as unusable. But bad clusters spread like cancer and your hard drive will just get worse and worse. Take the HP back to where you bought it and use your warranty to have the hard drive replaced.

I ran chkdsk and it reports 0 bad sectors, I also ran my harddrives online diagnostic tool and it reports everything is OK. It previously reported a SMART error. Bad block errors are no longer appearing in the event viewer. This is after I had chkdisk scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors. This has happened in the past, and then down the road the errors appear again. I am going to monitor it and see what happens. This is frustrating me as my PC is only 8 weeks old. I guess as a last resort, I will wait and see if it eventually fails and then take the PC back and get a replacement. I am open to any other thoughts or suggestions. Could this be corrupt software causing the bad sectors??
