I just installed a 256mb PC133 in an old Packard Bell PC. The board is Gigabyte GA - 6WMM7 with a Celeron 700mgz CPU. With the new ram installed it won't post but the ram works fine in another machine. Is it just a compatibility issue and will a BIOS flash help?
Thanx in advance
does your motherboard support PC133? does it support 256MB DIMMs?

Probably an issue of High Density ram being used in a system that can't handle it. Common with PC133. Always best to buy ram directly from www.crucial.com that is guaranteed to work for prebuilt machines.

I took a 64mb PC133 from the machine and that's why I bought the PC133. I would have thought a board of this age would have been fine on 256mb dimms but I guess it's best not to presume anything with a PC!!!! :-)
The compatible modules listed for a GA-6WMM7 at Crucial are all low density - and a 256mb is as large as it will take. You probably have a high density module. A bios flash will not help. PC133 is compatible, as is PC100. Almost all cheap 256mb modules out there are high density now.
