I'm building a new computer with a foxconn motherboard, 2.66MHz celeron CPU and it takes longer than an old 486 to load!!!! It takes at least 5 minutes for it to boot up from the Win XP cd. When it starts to copy the installation files on the hard drive, it takes a pause between each file and when it reaches a certain number of files, the computer freezes up and thats it. I tried with a different CPU, memory and hard drive, but it does the same thing.

I tried to flash the bios, but.... i'm still waiting for the computer to load. lol.

What can I do????

are you using the correct Hard Drive IDE cable? The ones that come with DVD and CD drives are usually 33, whereas HD cables are usually 100 or 133. My system was booting up slow beacause I was using the wrong one until I figured it out.

I thought the newer HDD cables were 80 wire?? I'm no wire expert.

Is this a new Hard Drive? I have wondered how reliable these MB's are because of the economical prices offered on FoxCon...It may be a bad MB

I think he was referring to the speed of the HDD, as in ATA100/133, etc. As far as compatility goes, ive not personally seen issues between 40 and 80 pin IDE cables.

I think Foxconns are related to PcChips, ECS, and Deer. Not to mention they are rampant in Dells.

Using the wrong cable did actually work, it was just much slower to install windows and boot up.

Thanks to all of you. The Foxconn technicien also thought it was caused by the Ide cable, but it was'nt. Normally, you put one cdrom master and the other slave to tell your computer wich one goes first. But the motherboard does'nt like that. If it see's a hard drive master and a cdrom master it causes conflicts!!!!! I guess in the future, if someone wants to buy a cheap computer, i'll choose another board manufacturer.
