I'm thinking about trying to set up Linux on an external Hard Drive that I have hooked up to my laptop. I really want to have a dual boot system, Windows that starts with my computer, and a Linux option that I can start from the external hard drive. Does anyone see a problem as to why this wouldn't work? Or, how it would work? Should I just install Linux onto the drive? What's next?

Any help would be appreciated, as I am definitely a Linux newbie.

Thanks in advance,

I'll take a shot at this...

You might be able to do the above setup... if you plug the drive in, Linux (most distributions) should see it as a SCSI disk. The only problem that comes to mind is if you'll need to use initrd to pre-load any drives.
