I will make this as detailed as possible.

New Dell Laptop with wireless card
Just purchased a Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router WRT54G

Here is my setup and hopefully it is understandable.

I presently have a desktop computer and internet phone system set up on a Linksys
Hardwired Router BEFSR41.

I plugged in my wireless router into the Hardwired Router for service.

It goes like this....cable from wall to Time Warner Broadband Cable modem box.
From Cable modem box to Hard Wired Router BEFSR41.

My desktop and Phone (phone is part of my business...a call center setup via
a hosted solution phone system, just another plug in to a port on the hard wire)
are plugged into the Hard Wired Router BEFSR41.

I then plugged in my Wireless-G Router into a port in the Hard Wired Router.

Now my new laptop tells me it is getting a signal from the wireless router but the
problem is when I open up an internet browser I get nothing. I can not log on to
the internet.

I spent 2 hours last night trying to talk to Linksys tech support in INdia and they
had not clue what the hell they were talking about. I could hardly understand them
and they did not understand me. It was all very frustrating.

Dell tech support put it all on Linksys and said they could not help me and I had to
talk to Linksys.

Can someone here help me out and tell me how I should have this set up.

Am I doing it wrong? Is there an easier/better way.

Explain it to me like I am a 4 year old and maybe I can get this thing up and running.

Thank you thank you thank you for anyone and everyone who can help me.

when you plugged the wireless router into the hard wired router, did you use the wireless router's WAN port to the hardwired router's LAN port? if you did, change it to one of the LAN ports on the wireless router (you may need to change the cable from a straight thru to a x-over or vice versa).

I don't understand the need for TWO routers. Is the wired router necessary to connect the phone system or does the phone simply connect thru an ethernet type (RJ45) cable? Sounds like you're trying to use the wireless router as a Wireless Access Point. I would do one of two things.

If the phone system will connect to the wireless router, replace the wired router with the wireless and reconfigure the network. If the phone system has to have the wired router, return the wireless router and exchange it for a Wireless Access Point.

thank you thank you thank you....so the morons at STaples told me wrong. They told me I needed the Wireless ROUTER. You are telling me all in need is the wireless access point. OK....I will swap that out and see if that helps. I sure appreciate everyones help on this. It is for my wife and her new laptop and she was very disappointed when she could not just plug it in and be off and running.
