Amazing really, so many people would be helped with a chip like that, if they manage to perfectionate it.

Yeah I saw that in Wired. It works really well and they had the stories author there to witness a demo. He was amazed. The guy didn't have as much control over a mouse as we do with hands. But it was enough to run a couple apps and even play pong. That is amazing, controlling pong with your mind.
He says at first he needed to imagine his hand controlling a mouse, but no longer needs to even do that. He just visualizes where he wants the cursor to go now.

it's really a wonder what technology has advanced to. mabye those old Sci-fi movie and novels weren't all that off eh?

They never are...Remember the "flip communicators" from Star Trek? They look a lot like most mobile phones. How about "Brave New World" when children were no longer birthed naturally, but created in test tubes to achieve desirable characteristics?
I wonder if this will ever lead to neural interfaces, ala "Neuromancer"?

I am certain that 30 years from now, there will be functional replacements for eyes and ears that will directly interface with the brain. In fact, these exist already, though they have to be greatly refined.

That is so awsome. The way I see it, if they can make them 20/20 , why not 20/15 or 20/5? Instead of normal human hearing, why not enhanced? I hope we push ahead in great science like this.
As corny as I know it sounds, I really am glad to live in such intriguing times. :)

I once saw a scientist on TV talking about that. His words where like it would be nice to enhance a person that is not impaired, but it would be many times greater to give the gift of sight or sound to a person with out.

Yeah, a good point. I meant for a disabled person, and hadn't thought about enhancing someone who was fine to begin with yet. I am not sure it would be such a good thing having a bunch of major leaguers hitting like Ted Williams because they all have 20/5 vision.
Now that I think about it I hear Bernie Williams on the radio hawking lasik surgery. I don't know if that can achieve better than 20/20 results. Maybe it already can. I wonder if the technology ever does come about to allow all this, where they will draw the line?

You can sometimes get better vision with laser eye surgury. My mom's friend went in with 20/250 or somewhere around there, and came out with 20/10.

You've got to remember that two things drive invention: necessity and/or imagination. That's why so much of the stuff in Sci-fi films is eventually invented... because someone says 'that'd be cool to have', and someone makes it happen

Unfortunately such operations carry a risk I'd rather not take if my eyesight ever begins to drop. Friend of my mother is practically blind since she tried surgery like that.

I want to get it the day I turn 18. My vision is 20/440. Meaning I see at 20 feet what a normal person sees at 440 feet. Glasses are a pain, and contacts are a hassle.

^a better idea is the see clearly method (http://www.seeclearlymethod.com/). Its a video or dvd with a bunch of eye exercises that are supposed to improve your vision.

That seems like a hoax :)

Its not.
My eye doctor and my teacher recommend it.
