So, how is ThunderBird?

I tried FireFox and like it, but I don't see many raves about ThunderBird.

Anybody use it? How do you like it?

I have used it just to try it out and I really like it (much smoother "feel" to it, much like FF). I have gone back to OLE for now because I can't figure out where or how Thunderbird stores messages so I can't schedule my backups (I backup my .dbx files for OLE). If I could find a good resource to point me in the right direction for the location and format of the Thunderbird message/database files, I would be using it now.

All that said, it's much like Firefox in that it's kind of personal preference. There really isn't any huge advantage to using Thunderbird, only if you like it better than OLE/OL.

I've been using Thunderbird for over a year. I don't have any problems with it. I think it loads faster than Outlook and gives me the same functionality.

I just recently switched to Thunderbird and I like it. As with Firefox, the extensions are best, with Enigmail being my favourite.

So whenever a Thunderbird thread comes up, I have to ask this as I havent kept up with the versions.
Does it allow you to use an SMTP server for each account that you have, I mean pair IMAP/POP servers and SMTP servers? Or does it force you to use one SMTP server or have to manually change to alternate servers when sending mails?

That was the stupidest shortcoming of anotherwise fine piece of software.

Yeah that was really the only downside to it. It never affected me personally, but the chatter on Mozdev says it is now possible and you can set each account to use a different SMTP server through Server Settings>Advanced. When you write an email you can change accounts on the fly which also changes the SMTP server. Replying to an email will use the STMP server associated with the address that email was sent to.

Yes, you can definitely set up more than one SMTP server set up. I've got three set up, and you can assign each e-mail account a default SMTP server.
