I was just wondering, is anyone familiar with the external sound cards that are out? And if so any recommendations?

well for christmas i got Zalman 5.1 Surround Sound Headphones. But since im on a "aged" computer my sound card wouldnt work so i went with there external 5.1 sound card. Now i love these headphones and love the external sound card. its small, and the sound is great. i actually went to 2.1 and was like eww, because the 5.1 is so much better. Since ill prob forget to look back if you have anymore questions, send me a pm. ill gladly help you out.

Thanks danky. I was just looking for an easier way to have a sound card. I see that some are inexpensive and others cost a bit. still undecided.

thats what i have, not sure if you need the headphones too, but this is hte only external sound card i have, and its very good. I have no complains for the 3 months or so ive been using it. Its got volume controls for rear/front/center on the side of it. just search external sound card reviews on google, your bound to get something. :) let me know what you do.
The only downside to an external card like that is USB. Running anything like that USB is going to hit the system pretty hard. For minimum system impact, you still can't beat a good hardware-based sound card such as one of the Creative Labs PCI cards.
