I've got a AOpen Cobra AW-850 sound card.
I've noticed that I've been having audio problems, and although I'd hate to think that it's something to do with the audio card I want to make sure that it isn't the software. When I play games like The Sims 2, Half Life 2 (especially) and recently Splinter Cell 3 Chaos Theory I get audio playback problems. In the Sims 2, the sound of a truck leaving the property won't go away (just keeps looping). In Half-Life 2 when I shoot, jump, land on something, anything really the game freezes for just a moment and then plays the sound and the game resumes, but the sound is stuttered and isn't fluid for a few moments. Now in Chaos Theory whenever people start talking or something like that their first word is stuttered and then it plays normally. Otherwise there's no errors apart from the sound. I'm wondering whether it's the sound card or the software, but it doesn't seem likely to be the software considering how many programs have this problem. I have all the latest drivers for sound and graphics. Could it possibly be linked to the graphics card? I have an fx5200. In HL2 if I turn up the graphics the sound problem is much worse and the game can pause for 1-3 seconds, with the sound stuttering away. Please help me, this robs from the experience.
