What do you expect of a video card? How do you use your computer?

i mainly use my computer for gaming(Mostly flight simulater 2004) amd homework and i want a card that i can easily update in the future. i am thinking about getting a amd 64bit precessor but havent decided wihch one.

Then get a motherboard upgrade and plan on spending a lot more than 40 quid for a video card. PCI cards will not handle any kind of heavy gaming well. A Radeon 9200SE is not much better than onboard video to begin with.

okay thanks, the only pci express mobo my local parts shop sells is a Gigabyte K8NF-9 at a cost of £83.00. i am thinking of getting this cpu to go with it AMD Athlon 64 939 Pin 3200 Processor. itt is either that or the 3000 model with is about £20 cheaper.how is this for a card

GeForce 6600GT 128 Meg PCI Express Inno3D.
one last question, since it is a pci express card whild my current psu handle it or should i upgrade.

thanks.

What brand is your PSU and how many watts is it? Does it have the auxiliary 2x2 ATX12v connector?

The GT is a better card by far, memory amount notwithstanding.

Never heard of that brand, but if it's 400 quality watts and definitely has the 2x2 connector, it should be fine.

one last question

since i have onboard video would the 2x2 connector be plugged into the mobo because it currently is.

Yes. The 2x2 is for powering the CPU.

If your PSU does not have the 2x2 connector, yes, you will need a new PSU.

Okay - I just downloaded the manual for that motherboard. It has a 24 pin ATX connector *and* a 2x2 ATX12v connector. I *think* you can use a 20 pin ATX plug and the 2x2, but I'm not positive that's sufficient. You may want to get a new power supply with a 24 pin ATX plug to avoid possible power issues.
