I have a image of a 8 GB partition that I want to restore to a another 6 GB partition (different HDD's). The actual file is just over 1 GB. The program won't let me do it because of the smaller partition size even though the actual size of the image is much smaller. Is there anyway around this without deleting the destination partition and a new, larger one (and resizing the 2nd partition on that HDD)? These are active partitions BTW.

I don't think there is an easy workaround - you will probably have to restore to a equal or larger partition, you can use Partition Magic to set it up. Once you restore, you can use Partition Magic to resize as desired. Drive Image 5.0 was excellent but Drive Image 2002 has a history of issues.

Just an FYI - I use a software called EZ Gig II that clones the original and will let you add/modify/resize partitions on the new drive as part of the restore process.

EZ Gig II is an excellent package. It came with my Apricorn external drive housing. I haven't seen any way to buy it separately though. I'm not sure it can restore to a smaller partition though - haven't tried that yet.
