View Full Version : Upmix stereo WAV to 5.1 for playing through rear speakers?

Hello,

I'm trying to find a way to upmix a regular, 2-channel, stereo WAV file up to 5.1 so that I can direct it to play only through the rear speakers, for a project I'm working on. I haven't been able to find any software that does this (preferably freeware/shareware/opensource :)).

What I'd like to do is be able to play a regular, 2-channel, stereo WAV and have it play through all speakers (which they do now), while having the option to simultaneously play a 2nd WAV and have that particular WAV play just through the rear speakers.

I think upmixing the WAV to 5.1 and then 'assigning' it to the rear speakers is the way to go, but I don't know much about audio so I'm requesting some help finding a program that will do this (or a different way to go about it, as the case may be). Thanks.

Not gonna happen. :)
I know that Steinberg WaveLab can do some fancy stuff, but it's a bit pricey.
If you really want DD5.1 sound (from whatever source), I suggest you record it as such, or purchase the DD5.1 soundtrack.

Darn... Oh well, it was worth a try, not that big a deal. This was just one of my own self-recorded WAVs of my own material, nothing that could be purchased prepackaged in a 5.1 form (or otherwise). And obviously I don't currently have the capability to record it as such.

Thanks for the reply.
