GeForce FX 5700 bad?

Hi! A while ago (~year) I got a new computer with a GeForce FX 5700 256mb video card. I've been having some troubles with it, namely even with all driver updates I still get artifacts in certain occasions. For example, I will get artifacts while playing certain games (like Battlefield 1942 and Project Snowblind) and even while viewing a couple of websites (like Gamespot). I have DirectX 9.0c, the latest drivers, xp updates, etc.. GeForce support has not been any help to me.

Anyways, I heard a little bit ago that in general the FX series was/is crap. I also heard that the GeForce 6800 Ultra is an amazing video card.

Thoughts? Help?

I guess it would really depend on what you are doing - for normal tasks and such, the FX5700 is a somewhat decent card. However, the FX series as a whole tend to lack clear and full DirectX 9 support and their 2 Dimensional quality tend to be a bit skimpy. For example, Half-Life2, which is a full DirectX9 game, gets the FX5700 to default to DirectX8 when playing it. My recommendation is the Radeon 9600XT card instead of it, or maybe even the GeForce 6xxx series cards. Yes, the GeForce 6800U is amazing - any top of the line card, whether it'd be the x850XTPE or the GF6800U, is stunning.

Yes, if you have a PCI Express motherboard. There are AGP versions of the 6600GT too.

PCI-E is faster than AGP, right?

I was thinking of getting the DFI Lanparty mobo too anyways.

There really isn't any speed difference between the PCI-E and AGP versions of that card.
