i saw 2 articles, one was to make your 9800se into a 9800pro and one was to make your 9800pro into a 9800xt. http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=3&var1=101&var2=0 <= both are here. so would it be possible to get a 9800se and make it an XT??

I doubt it, but may be wrong. From what I remember, the only 9800 pros that you could "mod" to a 9800xt were the ones that actually had the R360 gpu. I thought about modding mine (it has the R360) to an xt, but after a little research, the only thing modding it would do is make Windows recognize the card as an XT and increase the clock speeds to match, so I just overclocked mine to the speeds I wanted and dropped the idea of using the mod.

i ask this same question on 2 other forums, video card and OC'ing specific ones, and the results were that i can if and only if the SE card comes with the r360 core and if it does you need all 8 pipelines to be perfect and have no damage to them.
anyone know a way to tell what core it is before i buy it? i know with Intel you can use the sSpec number and get the box code for the stepping you want. anything like this for ATI?

i have been looking around at different places and have seen 2 different cards. one has 128MB of RAM and is 256bit memory the other is 256MB of RAM and has 128bit memory. there is also a 128mb 128bit but i want to get 256mb of ram but i also want the 256bit memory.
here is says that newegg has a 256MB 256bit memory card but the site says different. http://pcmech.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=6315644/search=9800
any thoughts on what is better? the more RAM or higher bit? OR where i might find a 256mb 256bit card?
All you need is 128mb of ram - take the slightly faster ram over quantity.

ok, i have 128mb now and it seems fine. i have never had a 256, or even played on one to know the difference. i figured the higher bit would be the better of the two but wanted some good advice first. thanks!

if I were you, i'd just get a 9800Pro and save the trouble. you can softmod a 9800Pro with a R360 core (all new ones have them) and hynixD43 (i think) RAM. get the 128MB 256Bit if you want to do this as i think there is a specific BIOS for that card to flash to XT

the only thing i want the SE for is to see if i can get lucky and mod it to an XT, only for bragging rights! lol i'm going to a big LAN party the end of May so i want something good. at newegg i can get the pro for the same price as the se. SE has shipping, Pro is free shipping! so i'll go with the Pro.
