So I'm trying to set up a 56k connection in Fedora 3 and it won't recognize my modem. I've been searching around for info on modems and Linux and it sounds like it's a huge problem. I guess i have a WinModem. It's really old and i was going to originally going to get a new anyway before i even thought about Linux. Could anyone help me out with this? Reading the first reviewer's comments about this modem on NewEgg, they say it's compatible with Linux and other OS's.

What do you guys think? Is this doable for Linux? I was looking for just a cheap replacement my old slow junker (i think it's a 28k modem). I have XP dual booted so if it's not an easy task to find one compatible I'll just forget it and use the internet in Windows.

Thanks

I looked on AOpen's website and I did not see any driver support for anything but Windows... Linux may be able to make it work with drivers from your distro, but nothing for certain except for what the reviewer said on newegg. I'd give it a shot since I've noticed higher system compatiblity on my computers with Linux than Windows. Good luck.

This website lists the compatibility of many modems (winmodems and others) with Linux:

http://start.at/modem

It should contain all the info you need about Linux and modems.
