I want to use an ide adapter to hook this hard drive to my desktop to copy off some files.
How do I tell which side pin one is on? Looking at the top of the hard drive the jumpers are on the left side.
The center position where there is no pin is on the bottom of the two rows looking at/from the label side.
No legend on the drive tells me.
Help.
Pin 1 on a laptop drive is the pin closest to the jumpers.

that is what i was thinking, just wanted to be sure. i have heard you can zap the drive by hooking it up backwards. is that true?

Don't think so. I've hooked a couple of them up backwards. Just shut down the computer, rotated the cable and rebooted. No problems.

thanks glc and panama
but
something is still lurking in the back of my mind of a danger.
is it possible that if the little wires to power the laptop to ide adapter are reversed it could do harm to the hard drive?
the adapter i have now is really good cause it has a pin one arrow and also the black and red wire letters on the front and back of it.
