slow loading

I have a Dell 2400 128MB Ram 40GB hard drive 2.2GHz processor,it used to load fairly fast,but has become very slow.I would like to know how to see what is loading at start up,and how to tell what it is,so I will know if I want to delete it.I have gone to the start up tab,but I cannot tell what the programs are from the listing so I donot know if I want to delete them or not.

goto start, run, type in msconfig. Hit enter or ok.

There will be a tab with start up items. Becare of what you change anywhere in this area.

But in the start up items, you can uncheck items you don't want to start when you boot up.

I have never found anything critical in that list. I have everything unchecked.

You need more than 128mb ram unless you are still running Win98 or ME. If you are running XP, a good number is 512mb. You also need to scan for viruses and spyware.

That's not necessarily good advice. Each item needs to be analyzed.

Have you defragged your hard drive lately?

You might also want to scan for viruses, spyware, trojans and hijackers.

Personally, I would uncheck everything in msconfig. If you find you need it you can always check it back.
