I have a fax program that requires IMGTHUMB.OCX. When I try to open the program I get a window that says " run-time error '367'. Can't load ( or register ) custom control: 'IMGTHUMB.OCX' ". Microsoft support says that it should be in Win98_62.cab. My computer originally came with 98 but after getting a larger hard drive, 98SE was installed. I still have the old drive installed as the D drive with all of the original OEM programs & drivers. In 98SE Win98_62.CAB doesn't have IMGTHUMB.OCX. On the D drive, 98 does have in Win98_62.CAB. My question is, how do I get IMGTHUMB.OCX from the D drive to the C drive & into Win98_62.CAB so this program will see it & open? I apologize if this explanation seems to ramble on but I can't think of a better way to explain it. Thanks.

Extract it to c:\windows\system and open a Run box, type:

regsvr32 imgthumb.ocx

Repeat for any other missing OCX's and DLL's.

If it's in the cab as imgthumb.oc_ you have to do 2 things - first off, extract it to a temp folder (such as c:\temp) then you have to expand it. I believe the syntax is as follows:

expand -r c:\temp\imgthumb.oc_ c:\windows\system\imgthumb.ocx

Then you can register it.

You can use Winzip to extract it from the cab.

glc,
I tried the first example as it is shown as .OCX. I clicked ok in the run window & I got RegSrv32 , LoadLibrary("imgthumb.ocx") failed. GetLastError returns 0x00000485.

That probably means you need more OCX's and/or DLL's or you have a wrong version. That particular OCX is part of (Kodak) Imaging, which can be installed in Windows Setup in add/remove programs. I don't have a 98 box here to check, but I *think* that's under Accessories. Have your Windows CD handy if the 98SE (NOT the 98 original) cabs aren't on the hard drive. Have you tried reinstalling your fax software?

glc,
I found imgthumb.ocx in C:\ windows\system. It's also on the CD but that's a copy that I made from my C: drive. The MIS guy at work set me up with 98se after I had thoroughly screwed up my system & my original 98 never worked right anyway. I've tried to find Image for Windows on the net. Apparently it can't be had free anymore. Is there a way to make the program see imgthumb.ocx in it's current location? I have tried to reinstall the program. Same thing.

p.s. I have kodakimg.exe in Windows.

Hi bduff509 (& glc)

What fax program is it?

You might be able to fix this if you:

1) uninstall/reinstall that program - or, if you haven't a program disk for that, --> if you have a Win98se disk (or the 98se .cab files on your hard drive) to

2) uninstall/reinstall Kodak Imaging by
a) going to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel
b) selecting Windows Setup
c) from the Accessories tab, uncheck "Imaging" (to uninstall it)
d) reboot
e) go to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel
f) select Windows Setup
g) from the Accessories tab, place checkmark in "Imaging" (to reinstall it)
h) reboot & try your fax program again.

Can't hurt to try anyway!
Best of luck,
. . . Gary

Gary,
Thanks. It worked but I had to rebuild it by pulling files from all over. It still won't run the program because it says that it didn't detect a Microsoft Fax Scanner on the system. Is it talking about hardware or another program? It may be a Microsoft program because the ReadMe document refers comments & questions to JohnSherda@msn. I don't know how I got it unless it came installed. Thanks again.

No, Windows 98 did not come with MS Fax and they did not offer any after the fact fax programs. However, you can install MS Fax if you have the 98 CD.
