Which internet provider does everyone use in California?

I want to change one. I need really fast upload speed, because I download files from BitTorrent all the time. 60KB per second at least.

Which does everybody recommend?

Thanks for help.

I'm on SBC. But you might want to check out Broadband Reports (http://broadbandreports.com) to see your different options and read reviews.

Cable Internet beats DSL. I have Adelphia but your area might have a different cable company.

Cable Internet beats DSL.

Not always. Depends on the provider.

This is true. I have a 24mb up/1 mb down :) connection with ADSL here in Sweden. The fastest that we can get with cable is 8mb down/1mb up but I don't know how it is for you guys over there in California  Here you can get 10mb down/ 10mb up with fiberoptics but it costs quite a lot and is not available everywhere. :(

also as was stated earlier , cable might be bogged down at peak periods depending on how many peeps on your trunk line . I jumped to DSL after seing that first hand. but DSL is also affected by how close you are to a switching station :(
do your researche and pick wisely I would yes ;)

I use SBC as well, but don't know my upload/download speeds... At the time I was initially looking, cable was unavailable in my neighborhood. :(

Seems to work ok... for me... ;)

broadbandreports seems like a GREAT resource, I'd check em out!

I wish I could remember where I saw a website that lists all the broadband providers that are available in your zipcode. This is the list you would choose from. Perhaps Google it?

I am using Charter cable and right now am experiencing an e-mail problem with them which I hope to resolve soon.
My limited experience with SBC dsl was that I got a call from SBC offering me dsl and being assured that it was available to me at my address, so I signed up for it, received the package and installed the software, waited the 10 days prescribed for it to become activated(?) and found that it didn't work. Upon calling the support people I found that I must be a minimum of 4000' from an access point, I was about 6 miles so when we moved here to the coast I opted for the cable internet.

I have comcast, and you just cant beat them IMO
$55 a month and I get 768/6000 speed
and since I'm like one of maybe less then 10 people who have cable in my whole zip code area, the speed is all that and more.

Your download speed : 8706791 bps, or 8502 kbps.
A 1062.8 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 729393 bps, or 712 kbps.

:D
