So I wanna use a proxy server to hide my IP. I'm using Comcast cable internet, and I'm on a router. I'd like to keep using firefox while and all I can bring up is how to fake a dial-up IP.

I use Ghost Surf (http://www.tenebril.com/consumer/ghostsurf/)
It will work with Firefox.

I've found Ghostsurf to cause an extreme slowdown to your connection. It feels like your on 56kb modem instead of a 2mbit broadband connection :(
It works good though :p

You could just put a proxy into your Tools>Options>General>Connection Settings in Firefox. It is a simple, single proxy approach, but that's enough for most people. There are lots of sites detailing which proxies to use, but I will give a quick low-down. It doesn't seem like it should be so, but "high anonymity" proxies offer more anonymity than "anonymous" proxies at most list sites. This includes atomintersoft and samhair. Transparent proxies deal with caching and some other things you really don't need to worry about. They are not what you are looking for. Here is a proxy list, you will have to use trial and error to find one that works best. Also keep in mind you can look into what socks proxies are for and that http proxies don't always serve secure pages, but seperate proxies are available for that. The one I have below at the bottom of the page is a combination proxy which serves both http and https.

You can use the ones listed on the main page, or go through the thousands they have right below it, or check by country right below that. The proxies are listed as an IP Address with port after the colon, like this... 192.168.1.1:80
You can use this proxy if you wish, It has been up for three weeks now, which isn't bad. (get used to changing proxies, bookmark the list). Not that anyone has any more reason to trust me than anyone else, but I know for a fact this is a truly anonymous proxy. In addition to that this is a logless machine...In short there is a cron job on the machine that wipes the logs very frequently, according to the maintainer.
