Buying a TFT, The start of my dream PC

Hiya guys, I've been on this forum since I was about 13 and lost my account but I'm back and I got some questions ;)

I'm from new zealand but have been living in england for about a year now, I've decided the time has come for me to get back into my computer building again, I'm amazed by the size of the market over here for computer parts, it seems that more and more people are building their own pcs these days.

Computers used to be my life but I've been real busy the last couple of years so I've missed alot.

I'm on a pc I built from parts at a computer fair(another cool uk thing)
its an athlon xp 2200, radeon 9800, 1g ddr 266mhz ram 80 gig hard drive, dvdr...... not very interesting huh

the best thing about it is the 21 inch crt that I picked up for £30 from a broke student.

anyway enough about myself and more about the pc, since I've been away from computers TFTs have come down alot in price so I'm gonna start my new pc with a nice big tft, I want a 19" but I'm confused about the contrast ratios and responce times, can someone please help me understand or point me somewhere that explains?

I was thinking of the Samsung SM913N 19" TFT 8ms 700:1 Monitor, I take it 8ms response time is better? is it noticeable? I want high refresh rates at high resolutions as this is going to be my 3dstudio max pc.

The pc that I'm planning to build for it will be a mean machine, I'm thinking of spending £1000-£1500 which I already have saved ;) nice audigy card and I'm not taking any shortcuts with the graphics card eather.. I'm studying the review sites and getting an idea of whats crap and what kicks ass, I can't wait to get my part list up and get your opinions on it :)

I'm not really sure about the contrast ratios but 8ms is a really good response time. Anywhere under 16ms is great for gaming.

How much did you pay for that 3DS Max software, I looked at their site and you could buy it for £3100 inc vat!! :eek: http://store.discreet.com/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayPage&Locale=en_GB&id=ProductDetailsPage&SiteID=disc_eur&productID=33157900&Env=BASE&vatCC=GB or is this not the same as 3D Studio Max?

cheers for the help guys, randomprecision asked how much I payed for 3dstudiomax.
At the moment I'm using the a free trial that came with my 3dstudiomax bible but I'm thinking about borrowing some money to go for 3dsmax 7, I'm really serious about a career in graphics.

When lotrs was getting filmed in new zealand, I was invited to spend the day in weta studios where they were doing the effects, it amazed me how enthusiastic these guys were about what they do and I knew that I wanted to do something similar.

I think its a worthwhile investment if I can really make something of it, I'm already 6 grand in debt in new zealand from studying a cert in IT so whats harms a few more grand gonna do.

I aint using a cracked version if thats what youre thinking :cool:

Yeah, I think a career in graphics would be really interesting and it would never really get boring. :)

My friend downloaded it so it might be an option if your not willing to pay it all upfront you can probably find some alternative way. ;)
