It should disable itself when you put a video card into the AGP slot.

What brand motherboard do you have? Check for a setting in the BIOS to disable onboard video.

Most of the time the onboard will disable itself

If it's an AGP card, the onboard will automatically disable. If it's PCI, it won't, and you have to disable the onboard in device manager, there's no way to shut it off in either bios or with a jumper.

thanks guys. i just went to system properties and it shows 512 mb system ram, meaning the vid isnt enabled. if by some chance i want 3 monitors at once, can i plug one in there and just have it work? btw glc thanks for all the help with pickin out the graphics card. im very happy with my new card.

If it doesn't automatically disable itself then you'll want to pop the card in and make sure you have the drivers for it installed. Then you go into the device manager and click display adaptors, find your onboard drivers and click disable at the top of the window. Reboot and you should be set. If you've already gotten it working then good :) -- ignore all this.

Good luck and have fun gaming.

For 3 monitors - assuming you have an AGP card that's dual head - you will need to add a PCI card and hope the drivers and resources don't fight each other.

ok, maybe ill test it with my old PCI cards, but when i used to run my pci card (VERY old) with my onboard, the onboard could go to say, 1024x768, while the PCI could only go 800x600, although if i put the PCI as the primary monitor i could go to 1024 on that and only 800 on the onboard. anyway 3 monitors is overkill until i have no space on my desk, and until my bday i have only huge CRT monitors...i need space on my desk until the school year is over.... 2 monitors willl definetely be enough anyway, in fact i prefer one if im still using these CRTs and ya i think i figured out that the onboard definetely wont work cuz it runs through the AGP whcih is now occupied, and probably wont need 3 monitors anyway.

Now all i need is some free time and some games...2 days more of hell, and 2 finals of one teacher who honestly told us that he is trying to fail people with his exam, and another who lied to us about what was covered on the exam, and added the other half of the book to what was going to be on it on the last regular day of school...blah
