Monitor only showing shade of blue....help??

i just got a trinitron 21" monitor and suddenly the screen only has a blue tint to it. it looks like there is a blue filter over the screen or that all other colors are just absent. is the monitor just shot or something else? i hope someone out there know cause it's REALLY giving me a headache (in more ways than one).

what cable r u using to connect the monitor to your pc? VGA or DVI? can you switch cables to see if its a bad cable? plug another monitor into your pc to see if it is the sony monitor that is defective or if it is your video card

Make sure the cable is tight. A loose cable can cause all sorts of wierd problems because each color (red, green, and blue) is transmitted on a seperate wire. Is this a new monitor or a used one?

unfortunately it's a refurbished one. i've never bought a refurbished piece of computer equipment and something tells me i shouldn't have started...

Hi there. We have encountered many like this at work (Computer Plus Systems) and usually its a bad cable. I would recommend trying another cable from somewhere. Or try a different monitor using the same vid cable. That might narrow it down whether its the monitor or cable. My 2 cents. Good Luck.

thanx so much, nav!! i WAS the CABLE. whew. but now i think my new motherboard just died. lol.
nav, i have (possibly HAD) the same board as u (well, mines the platinum/sli, but pretty close). any trouble with it? everything was working then the bios went all whacky and it won't even power up anymore. i'm testing my machine on a new board to make sure and then sending the msi board back. i finally get my dream machine put together and all hell breaks loose. ;)

What power supply are you using (brand/wattage)? Many times unusual parts failure is caused by a poor quality power supply.

merrickne, i love this board, its the ultra version btw. Love it, stable overclocker too. I agree with hi ho, check your psu, get a good brand like the one mentioned in a sticky somewhere. think its in general hardware. good luck

i've got an antec true550 550w ps. i got a new motherboard and it's still giving me problems. i'm starting to think it's the cpu. my machine powers up but nothng else happens. i've tested all parts now except the cpu and the ps (both bought new). the reason i think its the cpu is my new ram has led lights on them to let you know how much work they're doing. in my other machine they're running perfectly, in the busted machine they're aren't lit up at all, as if they're doing nothing. i'm thinking they're not doing anything in this machine cause the cpu is dead so they're ISN'T anything to do. make sense? tomorrow i'm getting a new cpu and ps to test them. sigh...nothing is ever easy. ;)

I'd go for an Asus motherboard. I hear of quite a few more problems with MSI than Asus. That PSU is a good one and shouldn't be causing any trouble. There's always a chance though. It is very, very rare to have a bad CPU. If nothing is lighting up I'd lean towards the motherboard or power supply.

thanx for the suggestion, hi ho, but i know it's not the motherboard cause i swapped mine out with a brand new one and it's having the same problem. i've NEVER had a problem with a cpu and have had a few problems with power supplies so i'm hoping it's the ps as it's much easier to replace (although the cpu is under warranty). a quick trip to fry's electronics tomorrow and i'll know for sure tomorrow.

Have you tried out of the case troubleshooting yet? Procedures are in the sticky thread in the BYOPC forum.
