Hey i got this rather anoying problem at the moment. Well here is the low down.

I have just recently built a new pc. All parts are reletivly new and my friend said they were in good working order. I have taken a hard drive from my old computer and set it as master etc.

At boot up it takes ages to detect the hard drive and then says boot failure. I have pu the windows xp cd in and tried to repair or reinstall windows onto the drive, but the windows cd does not detect the hard drive at all.

I previoulsy used that hard drive as a slave on my old computer and it worked fine. Not sure what the problem is.

Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

Thanks.

Did you change the jumper setting on the drive ??

Let me take a wild guess. It's a Western Digital drive and you have it jumpered to Master, and it's the only drive on the cable. Remove the jumper for Single operation or use Cable Select if you are using an 80 wire Ultra ATA ribbon cable.
