help w/ gaming pc

ive been putting some parts together to make a gaming pc.. still need some suggestions.. ill show you what i have so far - my plan is to make a silent pc as well.. Silentpcreview has helped with some of that

antec slk 3000b
seasonic 430W ps
asus a8n-e
Athlon 64 - 3500+ venice
1gb (512x2) corsair kit - xms
seagate 7002.8 or samsung P120 sata
audigy 2 ZS
grahpics card? need help with that one been reading about x800 an 6800gt
dvdrw combo drive ? need help there too (quiet is a concern)

The A8N-E comes with sound. You might want to try that out before you get the sound card.
both the X800 and the 6800GT would perform excellently on games.
Get the Seagate harddrive.
Make sure the psu is is made by a good manufacturer and is ATX2.0. The Thermaltake Silent Purepower 430W is a good choice. I can't seem to find the PSU reference guide, so I don't know if seasonic is a good choice.
If you are not overclocking, the corsiar value RAM is a lot better choice. It is cheaper and will work perfectly well.
I think Plextor makes good quiet, optical drives.

is say anywhere around 1500$ is the budget. the ram i chose xms because i heard about valueselect not working well with certain boards. about the video cards -- i know there are a few types of x800 such as xl and xt.. im not sure what their differences are?


edit- is it wise to get two optical drives like one for cd-rw and one for dvd-rw.. or is the combo the better way to go? im assuming there is an advantage to having two?

Seasonic is an excellent power supply.

I'd get 2 opticals - a DVD-ROM and a DVDRW. The DVD-ROM can read anything and the DVDRW can burn anything.

Optical Drives: In main machine I have a DVD/CD-RW combo as slave and DVDRW as master, as it allows me to copy personal DVD films.

Graphics: X800 XL about £230 (UK) - uses the ATi 430 core, 256 GDDR3 RAM, 490 MHZ memory clock, 400 core, 16 pipelines. all of this means it scores very slightly lower than the more expensive X800 Pro.

X800Pro

Benchmark Machine = AMD64 3400+, Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro, 1Gig Corsair XMS RAM.

Some of the Nvidia 6800GT cards are noisy - but Zalman and a few others do some decent after market cooling.

Negeva, you said the X800 XL scors lower, but it looks like it scors slightly higher than the X800Pro. You've got me confused.
EDIT: HiFi, the X800XL is a PCIe board, while the X800XT is an AGP board.

You probably won't notice that small of a difference between the cards.

X800Pro I think will score higher if you get a good overclock out of it but stock, the X800XL scores higher.
