My laptop is not detecting my cd/dvd drive. I have checked the BIOS and it is not detected there, and is not listed in the device manager. I was trying to disassemble the laptop but couldn't really figure it out. I didnt want to put on anything to to hard and break something. When i put the screws back in and fired it up it detected my drive. But i noticed the laptop wasnt fully in place so when i pressed down it snapped back into place. Once i did that the drive was no longer detected. I believe it is a matter of a connection to the motherboard. The cd/dvd drive does have power and ejects, just is not being detected. If anyone has tips on how to disassemble a emachines m6810 model so I can check the connection with the cd/dvd unit to the motherboard, help would be appreciated.

Welcome to PCMECH!

Make sure there is a solid connection between the drive and the motherboard.

I am not sure how to open up your laptop, but I am sure it is pretty easy.

I figured that the connection from the device to the motherboard is probably the issue, but I can't really figure out how to disassemble this laptop. I have removed all the screws I can find around the outside and I have takin out some of the parts that I can from the bottm and removed those screws as well. I still cant figure out how to get into the darn thing though. I have seen pictures of disassembled emachines laptops, and they can just lift their keyboard and have access however mine doesnt seem like I can do that without cracking or breaking something because it seems attatched. If anyone has any experience or knowledge of how to get in there, try to help me out Thanks.

Thank you for welcoming me :-)

Could you possibly post how you disassembled the m6810... I have all the screws out on the bottom and took out the HD, but can't get it to come apart any more.

Thanks in advance.
