What operating system is the system running/going to run?
You can do this during windows setup(with windows XP)..if it is XP you are using, this is done in the part of the process that asks where the OS is to be installed, it will show current partions and unpartitioned space. You can create partions, as many as necessary until all disk space has been used up. Another alternative is to use utilities such as Partition Magic. If it is an older version of windows, such as Windows 95, 98 or ME, you can use FDISK, through a boot disk.

I'm installing XP Pro... can i do it after the OS is installed or do I have to reinstall the OS? He didn't tell me he wanted it done ths way until after the os was installed.

I believe the only way is to use a program such as partition magic then, and you will be able to resize, delete and create partitions. There is another thread at the moment in General software, discussing free partitioning programs. You may find someone suggests a reasonable one, unless you are willing to buy partition magic.

If you haven't installed the OS yet, you can create the partitions during the installation process. "How to partition and format a hard disk in Windows XP" (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;313348).
