Hi. On my laptop, I recently finished a marathon ripping session using my Toshiba SDR6102 drive (~35 disks.) However, I returned to the comp after the last ripping and had a BSOD. After a normal reboot, and some other work on the laptop, I tried to burn a data cd with some of the .ogg tracks on it.... Didn't work...

I uninstalled Roxio Easy CD Creator, Installed Nero Express, still no luck... uninstalled, then installed regular version of Nero... I was able to burn data onto a DVD... but any CD I put in is not recognized. (LED light lights up/flashes, CD whirrsssssss)

Is my drive done? Can I do anything to rescue it? I haven't tried to update the firmware, laptop bios or clean any orphans from the registry (don't know exactly how to get started with that, and don't want to worsen the problem.) Are those last 3 options even feasible?

If I were to buy a replacement drive online, would it be relatively easy to install? Mine doesn't have the easily slid out kind of replacable drives.

ARGH>>> so angry...

Still have a warranty? Sounds like a drive failure.

Nah no warranty anymore...

Found this at Newegg... not the same part as I had (Mine shows Toshiba SD-R6012)

Not sure its compatible with my Sony Vaio PCG-FRV27... Sony's site has not yet yielded up the answer to me. Anyone know? Anyone able to point me to disassembly/replacement instructions for my Sony?

TIA
