Western Digital 320GB SATA 8MB Cache 3200jd
I was just about to purchase this bargain at Monarch for 140 bucks when I realized I didn't know if it would be compatible with my son's Dell 4500.
I looked around the web but by the time I find it the sale will be over and I'll be shovelling snow.
I did a search in this forum but I didn't catch anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Mike

Technical Specifications
Dell™ Dimension™ 4500
Available devices
ATA-100 Ultra DMA hard drive, CD drive, Zip drive, DVD drive, DVD+RW drive, and CD-RW drive
I'm guessing the above means no sata drive.

How old is this DELL?
From your second post it does look like that DELL doesn't support SATA hard drives.
And the DELL might not be able to support hard drives of that size too. What OS is it running?

One option would be to install an sata controller card on an available PCI slot. But im not sure if that would work with an older dell.

He has XP Home.
I think it is about 3 years old. I bought it on Ebay a month or two before the 4600 model were out.
I read the Guide to SATA post and it made the install sound doable.
