Water Cooling Installed - Woops/Help!

Ok, I installed the Koolance kit last night. The hardest part was getting my processor fan/headsink out. It was a bear, and when it finally came out the processor came out too.

Some of the pins were bent so I tried fixing them. It appeared to work and I put the processor back in. However, now the case/motherboard is getting power but the computer is not booting up. The cooling system runs, fans, etc but no HDs or video, etc.

I think I may need to take back out the processor and check the pins again and reseat it. Does this seem to be the most likely cause? Also, how bad is it to bend those pins?

If the pins were not bent too far, should be able to straighten them. But if they were bent a lot, the connection could have broken in the cpu when straightening. Also, make sure that you have cleaned all of the old thermal compound off and applied fresh compound. another thought is the PSU, it may not be up to snuff with the extra load from the cooling kit.

Thanks for the reply. As stated above, my hope is to pull it out again and reseat it. I REALLY hope it is OK.

My power supply is a ANTEC TRUEBLUE 480watt , so it should be OK.

Another question, if my CPU is bye-bye, could I put in a Prescott? My current setup is:

MB P4 INTEL 875P D875PBZLK FMB1.5 R

CPU P4/3.2CGHz 800M 478P/512K HT

Shoot, I can't even see the pins much less fix them. Make sure the HS is seated fully with both levers secured properly. My new build wouldn't boot because it said a heat problem. An easy fix if that's it.

OK, I got a Prescott 3.2. Installed in the computer. Computer would shutdown after a few seconds......every time. In a last ditch effort, I went back to my old processor and eventually straightened out the pins enough and got it back in the socket.

Computer is back ALIVE with no apparent ill effects :D

Water cooling installed and temps are about 5C cooler then before.

I will be sending back the Prescott to CompUSA.

Your CPU temp should be a bit lower than a 5C difference. Are you liquid cooling anything else? Are you overclocking? Which Koolance watercooling kit are you using?
