HI I am NEW here, and would really appreciatesome help

Having borrowed a computer from my Dad, I exchanged his hard disk drive for my own, and after connecting everything and booting up I got the various messages regarding new hardware, and drivers etc, I managed to sort them out, (I think) but the problem I have is that I cannot get my monitor to display anything other than 16 bit color or 2 bit color, and the size won't change from 640 by 480. What Have I done wrong?

are the video drivers installed?
go into your device manager and see if there is any unknown or other devices that require drivers to be installed.

PCI Multimedia Audio Device, PCI System Management Bus,
PCI Universal Serial Bus, are the only devices showing big yellow question marks, and when I check properties they all have a code 28 and require drivers, which cannot be found on my pc...!

is this a custom built pc? or prefabbed unit (dell, HP)?
if its a custom build, then use the drivers that came with each device to reinstall all drivers.
if its a prefabb, then refer there website for the lastest drivers

It is custom built and I do not have access to the disks for the hardware, most of the drivers are generic and installed ok, Unfortunately I do not know the motherboard manufacturer either...
Thanks OB1,

Hi fran, do you have access to the internet?? If so download everest home edition for your op system. ( you can google it) Once you save it to your hard drive- run the program and it will tell you in detail everything that is in your system - processer, motherboard, ram ,video chip etc. With this info you can then download the proper drivers for your video card or onboard video chipset. There are other software out there that will also do the same thing but I can't recall them now - hope this helps, reguards ,Mark
