I just formatted my hard drive c: and i try to use the compaq restore cd with all the programs pre-installed with drivers. And then i tried booting up with the restore cd in the computer and it wont work, it will only show me the contents that's in the cd and the letter a:, like a command prompt. Can someone help me and tell me if there is some kind of command or file that i have to modify its parameters in the PC such that the restore cd that i have will boot and run??????

If you formatted the drive and wasnt aware of it being there...
You formatted over the video part of the BIOS and it wasnt set
to boot from the CD-ROM before hand.
Hopefully you had it set to boot from the floppy first and you will
have to use a boot up disc to start the installation.
Compaq sell the program to restore the video part but I've been
told it costs about $40.00.
Dont feel bad ...........Ive done the same thing before.

Been there and done that with my old Compaq. Mine I think was A Deskpro XL514, pretty old. Anyway I wound up downloading from Compaq site three sets of floppies to recreate the setup on the hard drive. For my Deskpro it consisted of SP1598, SP1664 & SP5881. You need to search and download to floppies the files you need depending upon your model #. Then change command line to "A" prompt and start with the floppie that will have the DOS files needed (Mine I think was the SP1598) to copy and run rest of floppies. I also found their customer service to be very helpful, and it didn't cost me anything. That was about 18 mnts ago, don't know if their policy has changed or not.
Good luck
