Adding router to LAN

I recently setup a LAN 2 machines both running Win98SE. It seemed the only way I could get the computers to connect was assigning fixed IPs. Now I would like to add a router for my Internet access (cable modem). The instructions say to configure my computers to "Obtain an IP address automatically". The router has a DCHP function. Does anyone foresee problems by changing the configuration of the PCs? Also when connecting the router to my switch does it have to be connected at the uplink port?

DHCP shouldn't be a problem. I recently converted a 10 PC lan with assigned IP's to run DHCP from a Linksys router without incident. Your cable/DSL modem will be plugged into the router, the router will then be plugged into the uplink of the switch.
