While trying to shutdown --- I receive this message:
IEXPLORE.EXE
This program is not responding...if yu choose to end the program immediately, you will lose any unsaved data....
How can I correct this? Using WinXP Home
Make sure Internet Explorer (and any other open programs) are closed before trying to do a shutdown.

Check your machine for malware and make sure that you have latest updates, then reduce number of running processes because windows will have to end them all on exit and you will get message like yours often !!!

glc: First I received "IEXPLORE.EXE
This program is not responding...if yu choose to end the program immediately, you will lose any unsaved data.To end the program now, click end now..."
After receiving the above message I <ctrl+shift+esc>...Then I went to "applications" but the confusing thing is: there were no applications running.....so I clicked end now.
I only receive the above message if I've been online. Do I need to get rid of my cookies - cashe? What do yu think? My antivirus and firewall are current.

CTRL + ALT + DEL or right click on toolbar and select task manager!!!
You can also type msconfig in RUN box on XP machines and be able to see Processes tab when msconfig opens!!!

thanks.....I did what you recommended....and I clicked on the process tab..
Now, how do I turn off the InternetExplorer? Do I just high light "IEXPLORE.EXE" and then click end process? If I end process -- will IEXPLORE.EXE automatically start up when I reboot?

Yes it will start up when you click on your IE icon on desktop !!! I think it's not set to start on Windows Startup!!!
Do you still have this iexpore.exe issue??? And did you check your computer for VIRUSES and SPYWARE ???

Macko72: thanks.... I don't know if I still have the same issue because its on a different computer. But after your help.....I'll beable to tackle it with added knowledge. But one more question please: What is the difference between "clicking end process" and "clicking end task".........
To answer your questions: I've downloaded the virus definitions but I haven't checked for viruses.......and no, I haven't checked for spyware.
Also, my firewalll is updated. Appreciate all your help.

What is the difference between "End Process Tab and End Task" Is there a nice clear
nontech answer? Something the rest of us could understand?
One more question please: Under Windows Task Manager we have "System Idle Processs" If I click "end process" What will happen? Will it shut off internet explorer?

Try using stop on that( System Idle) you will notice that you can't stop system process that easy!!!
And for yours question when you hit End task it closes program that is running including his process, but some processes (particals of some programs) can run without whole program and you can identify them by name check here: http://www.what-process.com/index.aspx so process can be part of task(program) or whole (task) program !!!

Hi Macko72: I went into task manager/ processes/ hilighted "IEXPLORE.EXE" and then the following messsage appeared
"Task Manager Warning
Warning: Terminating a process can cause undesirred
results including loss of data and system instability. The
process will not be given the chance to save its state or
data before it is terminated. Are you sure you want to
teminate the process? yes no "
What do you think about that warning? Your opinion please...thanks- George
