View Full Version : selective start up
can some one explain to me why after "unchecking" an item on the start up tab in msconfig. and rebooting, the item still appears and ends up in the systray...again?? I have a couple of items like this (the software program for my scanner, adobe gamma loader, and the decoder agent for Windows Media Player).
reboot

Within the program itself, there must be an option to "Start when windows starts", which put's in a registry entry, OTHER than what's in msconfig/startup.
Antivirus programs, RealPlayer, RealJukebox, ZoneAlarm, and a host of others do this, (just to piss me off ;) ) and you have to hunt for the disable in the program, THEN run msconfig to be rid of it.
If you've got multiple entries, and you'd like to be permanently rid of them forever, open Regedit, and go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce
Delete the entries you don't want.
Then go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices-
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServicesOnce
Delete any entries you don't want.
