Looks like the best you can do for under 50 quid is a Radeon 9600 128mb, assuming AGP.

What games do you plan on playing?

You could try a Powercolor, Sapphire or ATi radeon 9600pro or 9600XT. Those are hanging around £50/$90

For a about £14/$25 more, you could get a 9800pro, which is considerably more powerful than 9600-series cards.

But, as you said, it's light gaming, so a 9600pro would suffice.

All the decent newer games are requiring 6800 and better graphics cards to run them at a decent resolution and framerate. For most people 40 FPS does not cut it. 60 FPS and better is where the choppiness starts to go away. If your just running older games you should be fine with a 9800.

The only game I've seen that actually utilizes a 6800 to a degree was doom3.

Most other games can be easily handled with a 9800pro or XT with full eye candy at 1024x768.

Aren't u guys a little bit too overestimating the situation...?
Net surfing, office applications, or some old games (diablos, warcrafts,or max payne) even my GeF 4MX 420 on PIII 550 can fairly well enough if u don't push it beyond it's capability. It's a different thing if u're completely planning the system for gaming or other heavy applications.
But I guess it's also fair enough to choose cards like R9600pro, so it won't be too underpowered like GeF 4 series ;)

Good, cheap, LIGHT gaming, 50 GBP budget - why are we even talking about 9800's and 6800's?

Plain vanilla 9600 128mb fills that bill fine.
