why not have a big 10 inch fan on the side of the computer instead of a bunch of little 120mm fans?

dumb idea? i can only think it would be loud, but im sure they can make a quiet one. do they make fans bigger than 120mm?

just a thought.

You could easily mount a large fan on the side but it would have two problems. First is the source of power. You'd most likely need to provide an external power source since finding a large fan that would be powered by the DC voltage of the power supply would be limited. You'd most likely need to plug it in to 115vac just like the computer.

Second problem is the turbulent air. Computer cases are designed to bring air in thru the front and out the rear. Simply creating a turbulent air volume blasting on the components won't necessarily be a viable cooling solution.

How about a case made of fans (http://www.peteredge.orcon.net.nz/casepics.htm)?

I saw a case mod once where a guy made a custom case out of PVC pipe and affixed a floor fan's blade and motor to inner side of the case, which swung open.

If you look at the pics of my comp i did have a 2,400 CFM car radiator fan hooked up to the transmission cooler i have cooling my comp, but besides looks it didnt have that mutch of a impact on cooling (unless the room was really hot) and even then it was only a few degrees so i just took it off. If you go with a large fan lower the voltage down so it will be pretty quiet but move a decent amount of air, it might need the full amount of voltage to start up but after that can probly be lowerd to an extent.

Seems more of a novelty to raise eyebrows than a necessity.
