I was getting this error and sometimes a Kernel error now and again. It would occur when I would go into explorer and just look or empty out temporary internet files, when I open a web folder that I placed as a shortcut on my desktop or just a new folder I placed on the desktop to hold files.
I ended up formating my hard drive by totally wiping everything out and starting over. I did this last night.
I was having no problems until today when I had the folder that I made on the desktop open and deleting files from it. After I deleting these files, and these files are just voice files I get through kind of like an FTP site, I closed this file and I got the above error again.
I have Windows 98 with IE 5.0.
Before I had Windows 98 with IE 5.5, thinking that the 5.5 was causing the problem?? So I just have IE 5.0 this time.
Any suggestions??
Thanks!!

I have searched the Microsoft site and the entire web and haven't come up with any answers to this error message.
Thanks for the answer though.
Have any other suggestions please?

"This error message can occur for any of the following reasons:
An unexpected event has occurred in Windows. An "invalid page fault" error message often indicates that a program improperly attempted to use random access memory (RAM). For example, this error message can occur if a program or a Windows component reads or writes to a memory location that is not allocated to it. When this behavior occurs, the program can potentially overwrite and corrupt other program code in that area of memory.
A program has requested data that is not currently in virtual memory, and Windows attempts to retrieve the data from a storage device and load it into RAM. An "invalid page fault" error message can occur when Windows cannot locate the data. This behavior often occurs when the virtual memory area becomes corrupted.
The virtual memory system has become unstable because of a shortage of physical memory (RAM).
The virtual memory system has become unstable because of a shortage of free disk space.
The virtual memory area is corrupted by a program.
A program is attempting to access data that is being modified by another program that is running."

all I did was open My Computer on the desktop.
I have 256 mg of RAM. I upgraded because I was getting this error, but I still get the error.
I also have tons of disk space.
What I had open at the time of the error message was IE 5.0 and Outlook Express. No other programs were open. I also had my antivirus program running, but I have disabled that before, and the error can happen without it running. All I did was click to open My Computer and the error message comes up. Interestingly, I usually close the error message, the screen refreshes or I get a message to refresh the desktop, and then my antivirus program and the two little computers are gone from the tool bar. Well, this time before I closed the error message I opened Dr. Watson. He came up with no obvious problems so I sent him to the tool bar and the error message was gone without the screen needing to be refreshed and without the tool bar wiped out.
Do you have any suggestions??

Having replaced the RAM may not necessarily mean that the problem is not being caused by the RAM. It could be incompatible with your system. Are there any occasonial blue screens also?

No, I do not get any other error messages or blue screens.
Everything else seems to work just fine.
