Hey,

Should I set my AGP Aperture to 256 or 512? I have it at 512 currently and it has practically solved my skipping problems in BF2 - along with locking my fps at 999 instead of the default 100. It ran well at 256 (my 6800 GT is 256 mb) - at 512 everything seems to load a bit slower, and I can't tell if the game plays much better - I think it does. What should I do and why?

Thanks.

EDIT: Nothing runs smoothly online now. It was running smoothly on single player with everything turned on high, 4x AA ( and no AA as well ) and it said 1280 x 960, though it did not look distorted like it usually does, so I don't know if it was really at that resolution. I'm going to reboot and set my aperture at 256 and see if it makes a difference.

EDIT: I realized why the display was cooky -- I was starting the game from my hacked shortcut -- I had it so it would load the game in 1280 x 1024, something which the game doesn't naturally support. I always have problems at that resolution in BF2, so let me go back in and retest everything yet again...

I have a 6800gt also and I think I have mine set at 256 also. Agp aperture is just system memory to add to graphics memory. So like your 256 onboard plus 256 aperture would work for doom 3 which needs 512 for ultra settings... BF2 however is the latest generation is works well with 2GB of memory alone so it's aperature may be different but I can't imagine 256 to 512 helping all that much more than a few frames.

This is one of the best places for info on different bios settings.

I know that it's system memory set aside to store video textures, it doesn't work the same as vRAM. I just keep mine set at 256.

Me thinks ya'll need to read the link I posted thoroughly.

The aperture size also determines the maximum amount of system memory that can be allocated to the AGP graphics card for texture storage.

Hmm, then why keep yours at 256?

It is recommended that you keep the AGP aperture around 64MB to 128MB in size, even if your graphics card has a lot of onboard memory. This allows flexibility in the event that you actually need extra memory for texture storage. It will also keep the GART (Graphics Address Relocation Table) within a reasonable size,

Back in the day when I was running an AGP system, 256 worked best on it after trying several settings. I can't say the same for every system though.
