Hello all. I'm trying to clear some of my desktop clutter and so I am considering going wireless with my keyboard and mouse. My only concern, however, is that in fast-pace games such as FPS's, a wireless set up might lag slightly and make it more difficult to play. If lag is not an issue, can someone reccommend a good wireless keyboard and mouse? (separate or bundled together are both fine) Ideally I'd like a silver or black set that is sleek looking, though I am willing to compromise.

If you get a $20 set of a wireless mouse and keyboard, it's gonna lag. No ****, right? You want a good wireless set for gaming, you gotta spend good money. I'd prefer to just get a corded mouse becuase a wire isn't that bad, but lag is. However if you want me to reccomend one then:

I heard this mouse is pretty good. I havent heard anything in the wireless keyboard section. Also read the reviews to see if you can type and click at the same time. Some of the recievers only allow you to do one at a time
Edit: for the reciever part, I meant if you buy a keyboard/mouse combo

So I used to have a Logitech wireless, unfortunatly I'm not sure if it was IF or Rf wireless. Anyways, it was junk, and I originally paid over $90 for it. the transmitter needed a direct line of sight in order to work with the keyboard and mouse. The mouse was rechargable but a charge only lasted a couple days at best. I was contantly forgetting to put the mouse on the charger (my problem not logitech's) but it was still annoying.

I would reccomend the microsoft optical desktop elite for bluetooth:

I probably would have gotten it because of the price but I used the warrenty at best buy to get rid of my logitech set and only paid the difference.

The mouse uses and AA batteries you want to put in it. I was using the batteries provided. I bought the set in February and I just replaced the batteries for the first time a few days ago. Talk about long battery life! The keyboard also has lots of extra buttons at the top to do lots of different nifty things with and also has a built in wrist rest which is very confortable. As an added bonus, I am able to use the bluetooth usb dongle that comes with it to network with my PDA. Bluetooth is awesome and requires no line of sight. I had knee surgery and was able to sit across the room and type and use the mouse with no connectivity issues and no lag that I could notice. I had a hard time seeing the monitor form there, but again that is my issue, not microsoft's. :) If you can at all afford it, I would most definitely reccomend this wireless combo. Knowing what I know now, I would totally pay full price for it. Hope that helped!

P.S. I know it isn't black or silver. I was looking for the same thing and compromised. It's still really sleek looking. I've gotten several compliments from friends who think it's cool.

HMBDDD is right

you just have to make sure you get BLUETOOTH. thats whats used for wireless controllers on consoles. it is lag free.

HMBDDD, if it required a direct line of site then it was infrared and those are prone to lag. RF models are much better.

You don't have to spend $100+ to get a lag free wireless keyboard/mouse. There are plenty of good, lower priced options. You don't need Bluetooth. Here are a couple models to look at:

Logitech 967496-0403 2-Tone PS/2 RF Wireless Slim Keyboard Mouse Included - OEM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823126171)

Microsoft N90-00073 2-Tone 102 Normal Keys 17 Function Keys USB RF Wireless Ergonomics Wireless Optical Desktop Combo Mouse Included - OEM (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823109146)

Any of the MX wireless Logitech are perfect. I have 2 MS 700's and an MX1000, no problems out of any of them. I have noticed slight interference with the MX1000 if I have my cell phone charging on the wall charger too close to the receiver. That was easily enough fixed.

I'm fairly sure I'm going to go with the MX3100 Pacakge from Logitech, as I had a chance to try it out at a friend's place and I really liked it. My only remaining concern is possible interference between the mouse-receiver connection and my wireless internet set-up. Will this be an issue? (My wireless router transmits at 54 mbps and is on the 2.4 GHz spectrum - the box says "802.11 g")

I did some looking and the Logitech set I had was the Mx700 Duo and it was an RF reciever. Maybe it wasn'ta direct line of sight that I needed. All I know is that I have a keyboard shelf under my desk and I needed the reciever right on the edge of the top of my desk in order to get it to work properly. But that was an older model too, hopefully Logitech has done some improvements since then. I still very much stand by my reccomendation for the microsoft optical desktop elite with bluetooth. And right now at newegg it's only like seven bucks more than the MX 3100. For seven bucks you eliminate the charger/base station on your desk, and you add bluetooth wireless to your pc! Most best buy stores I know carry it in stock, stop by and check it out if you have the opportunity.

During the time I had my logitech I went from a direct connection to a wireless connection and I noticed no difference in performance when the wireless network was in operation. I know that's not exactly reassuring given the other problems I had with my set, but I hope it helps some.

P.S. I just read the reviews on the MX3100 on newegg. You may want to read them as well. There is some talk about lag which you said you wanted to avoid (who wouldn't?)

The MX700 DUO is known for it's excellent gaming capabilities. You must have had some interference from something. Also, why would you want to get rid of a charger? A charger for the mouse is a very nice feature.

I use my pc quite a bit and I found that I was having to recharge it every couple of days. I know that wouldn't be a problem if I always put it back on the charger when I was done, but as I said in one of my previous posts I didn't and that was my problem not the mouse's fault. However, with my microsoft set that I have now, I just replaced the stock batteries in the mouse that came with it for the first time and I bought it in Febrary. I still have not replaced the original batteries in the keyboard. The microsoft set manages power extremely well and it was totally worth it for me to not have to worry about recharging it all the time. Also when I would run out of juice, I would have to stop what I was doing until the mouse recharged enough for me to continue. The other day, it told me the batteries were getting low, and I just popped in a new set, piece of cake.

I have a Logitech MX500 and an MX700. They are basically the same mouse. The MX700 is actually a tad heavier which I like (even for gaming) because you can make smoother, steadier motions with it (i.e. sniping someone.) I've never had any problems with lag, even in the fastest-paced firefights.

Thanks for the feedback. My MX3100 Duo from Logitech just arrived and I LOVE it! The mouse and keyboard both look very sleek and the lack of cords makes my desk look that much better! On a more performance related note, I honestly cannot discern any difference in lag/responsiveness between this mouse and a corded mouse, and I do notice a *slight* difference in precision with the laser - though an optical mouse served my needs fine. Gaming with this is a joy and I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who is in the market for a new mouse/keyboard.

from personal use, I switched from a MX1000, the mouse that comes in the 3100 duo and while it is a great mouse, the new Razer Diamondback that i bought feels much more comfortable. The MX1000 is a very big mouse and i can't seem to move the mouse up and down perfectly as i always hold it on a slight slant. This is just my experience though and yours might be different.

Bluetooth is key. I have the same Microsoft Optical Desktop Elite for Bluetooth, it's amazing. I play a lot of Doom 3 and I haven't had any lag at all.
