I read it over briefly and all it seems to say is the cached pages and image searches would be illegal, not the search itself. But as it sais, its only at the first reading, I doubt it will pass.
And if it does we can organize a giant geek protest :D

It won't pass - and if it does, that's insane.

like ghost said, it's just first reading. it will undoubtedly be changed. remember, this is the country where it is still legal to download music on p2p  . seriously, bills here never make it from first reading to law without going through some significant changes, especially with a minority government in power.

Rule #1: If you don't want your stuff to show up on the internet, DON'T PUT IT THERE!!!
Illegal search engines, even if you are searching for illegal stuff, should not be illegal themselves. Are phonebooks illegal?

This is just another one of those cases where some politician puts together a bill with good intentions and then they discover that it is a little broader in scope than they meant.
The shame of it is that in all the anti corruption bills the politicians have never been outlawed.......

google illegal that sounds right a great idea i think they should shut it down 100% and also include all of the other searchs as yahoo and the many more out there they should shut them all down (mama always told me google was the devil) J/K

I don't mean to go on a tangent here, but aren't most search engines powered by google? Such as MSN and Yahoo. The format is exactly the same. Is this true?

Most people with web sites would LOVE to get their name at the top of a Google search. That's one of the primary ways to direct traffic to a site! The only way to prevent someone from copying your info/pics/etc from your site and using them is DON'T POST THEM ON YOUR SITE! Making a search engine site responsible for someone's copyright infringement is ridiculous - and unenforceable.

Yes, it definitely is a silly bill based on its current wording, but keep this in mind: legal fights over the issue of copyright vs. search and archive internet sites are going to pop up more and more in the future. Copyright law was created in a time when copying a work meant you had to physically copy a material object at some expense to you. These days, that just doesn't happen: it's as cheap to make one copy of a hunk of digital data as it is to make a million copies. Until copyright law is reworked to take into account current technology, things are going to be screwy.

Dude can you imagine not being able to use a search engine? That would suck. I mean seriously how many times a week do you use one?
