Hey all,

I bought a Linksys 10/100 PCMCIA card for my laptop, that after the win98fe install I installed and it worked fine. Tried to use it today and it was not recognized. It is recognized as a PCMCIA card, but I can't use it, for example it doesn't even show up under network adapters. Any ideas? Anyway, I decided to scrap windows and start over. Tried installing win98 today and this time I can't get past the vmm32.vxd error, that pops up after the files have been copied and I'm rebooting. Any ideas as to how to bypass this? (Can't use safemode the setup isn't complete) Thanks in Advance!

Hi Floppy,
You can use SAFE MODE as well it will possibly start your system all the way but will not install any drivers - this leaving you in REAL 16Bit mode ... Take a look at those files
1.Bootlog.TXT if there
2.Setuplog.txt
3.ASD.log

I think you may as well check the hard drive for bad sectors and or RAM for once - use safe mode and if you get a unreliable memory address then it's time to look at the ram careful

The ASD log file will tell you about Failing hardware the bootlog.txt will tell you about failing drivers - the setuplog text will tell you about failed Setup files..

This way you can pin point the problem and I'm sure you will find the culprit..

When you found it and got rid of the problem then boot normal and use ADD/REMOVE hardware wizard to tkae care of the rest which was left out ..

Thanks Hpro,

I decided to install win98se this time and didn't have any problems. However, after the install my Linksys card was still not recognized. See this thread:

Any ideas? Everything works fine otherwise, and this card USED to work...thanks again.
