HELP !!

I have successfully been playing BF2 now since it's launch with no issue (I had the odd CTD, but nothing too inconvenient). However, I decided to improve my system by installing a Serial ATA harddisk. I therefore downloaded all the latest drivers for my kit and successfully installed and rebuilt my PC. Everything works fine except BF2. As soon as I connect to a server (multiplay), chose my kit and starting point, I get a loud electronic noise before the PC reboots.

I've reinstalled my original drivers over the top and it still happens. Read lots of similar problems on various forums but all of them CTD, they don't reboot.
I've even taken out my soundcard, uninstalled all drivers and attempted to play but the same thing happens. I also tried playing the game on the lowest settings and still it crashes.

I have found another thread that recommended using CAB Cleaner and Driveer Cleaner which I intent to do tonight.

What gets me is that this was working fun beforehand so can't believe it's as a result of installing the SATA disk.

Please help as need to get back to the fight.

My gear is P4 2.8ghz. Giga-byte GA8INXP mobo. Radeon 9800 Pro. Audigy 2. 1Gb RAM. All of this gear is supported by the game and is above basic spec so should not be an issue

Thanks

You say you "rebuilt" your PC. Did you take everything apart and put it back together? If so, why? If that's what you did, did you take the heatsink off the CPU? If you did that and reinstalled it without applying thermal past that could be a problem. What is the brand and wattage of your power supply? Can you play other games?

sorry - "rebuilt" was a bit extreme. I meant I installed the new hd and then drivers windows, drivers etc etc - all software. Definately didn't take the heatsink off.

have only tried CM4 which I don't believe to be that strenuous. Will try the cleaners as mentioned earlier and if I have the same problem will load HL2 and see if that also fails. Not sure on the wattage of my PSU. Will investigate this as it could be the prob - thanks.

All said, I'm convinced this has to be driver related as the kit all worked prior to me installing the new hd.

So you all know, I managed to fix this by re-installing windows and then re-installing the original drivers. I looks like when I uninstalled the newer drivers it must have left behind some driver files that caused the game to crash.

That's why I always use Driver Cleaner (http://www.drivercleaner.net/). It gets rid of the nasties left behind with a video driver uninstall. That sure would have saved you a reformat/reinstall.
